Neve's Story
“I’ve always been interested in arts and crafts and I started sewing when I was 5. I’ve always wanted to be a Fashion Designer when I grow up. When I was 8, I got a sewing machine for my birthday; but I wasn’t very well, and a few months later I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I didn’t feel like doing much sewing that year, but when I started feeling better, I started making lots of cushions and a few other things. My mum got sick of seeing so many cushions around the house, and because she couldn’t use a sewing machine, she found Margaret at Daisychain Fabrics. I started having dressmaking lessons in September 2017 and I’ve been going for 3 hours every week. I’ve learnt how to make bags and clothes for me and my family, and I’ve learnt how to use a sewing machine and the overlocker properly. I’ve also made buttons and put in zips, and I even made an animal to go in the Glasshouse at the Botanic Gardens. I really enjoy my lessons with Margaret because I’ve learnt to make a lot of lovely things, and Margaret is friendly and patient with me.” – Neve
“Neve who is 10 years of age came to Daisychain Fabrics in September 2017 to continue her sewing journey. She had been sewing for some time when she was diagnosed with Diabetes which meant that she had to give up her sewing for a while. I have watched her confidence grow along with her sewing skills. As well as making clothes for herself and family members, Neve has made a Bandicoot for the National Botanical Gardens of Wales as part of the stitch work creatures representing areas in the Great Glasshouse.
I am so proud of this young lady who has shown great talent. Saturday mornings are great fun with Neve.” – Margaret
